Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The unit of Gastroenterology and Rheumatology is part of the department of Medicine, Huddinge, and is focused on liver diseases. The unit has a strong translational approach, mixing studies within epidemiology, clinical interventions, and basic science. We are now recruiting a biostatistician to the unit to assist in analyses of large data sets and improving the knowledge of patients with liver diseases.
The employed person will be working in the research group of dr Hannes Hagström but will also provide support to other research groups.

Your mission

The statistician will work in a vibrant environment with a combination of clinicians, epidemiologists and other statisticians. The unit have frequent collaborations with basic scientists. Work involves standard statistical and research data base management, but also giving support to PhD-students and postdocs on the use of appropriate biostatistical methods and techniques. The position involves working with combinations of register-based data sets as well as clinically derived data sets. Part of the work may involve teaching tasks, available through the Center for Bioinformatics and Biostatistics (CBB) at KI South, depending on the profile of the employed person.

Your profile

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced statistician to join the unit. A degree in biostatistics, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related field is expected. A PhD within such a field is a strong merit. Knowledge of statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, R, Python) is required. Communication skills are important, as the position will involve collaborating with non-statistical researchers. Previous experience in research or consulting in some public-health-related area is desirable but not required. Previous experience of Swedish national-based registers is a merit. Experience in working with liver disease epidemiology is a merit but not required.

What do we offer?

A vibrant and creative environment with close collaborations between scientists from different fields. We envision that the biostatistician will help us in developing a solid understanding of a range of research questions within the field. Examples are database management, natural history studies, identification of risk factors for disease progression, analyzing data from randomized controlled trials and pharmacoepidemiology. The employee will have an ideal environment to thrive as a statistician and collaborator. We will offer opportunities to attend courses, participate in conferences and workshops, and be involved in the other activities of the unit. Collaboration with other statisticians and professional development is available.
