Description of subject area

The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology (FyFa) is strongly involved in teaching at all levels at the Karolinska Institutet. The candidate will join a dynamic group of teachers managing courses in the biomedicine program (bachelor and master), medical program, physiotherapist and dentist education and many elective courses in collaboration with other Swedish universities. Research will be performed within the division of Integrative Physiology at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology (FyFa). The research projects will focus on identification and characterization of the physiological role of new immunometabolic targets altered in exercise and Type 2 Diabetes. The candidate will have the opportunity to join our research group and work on projects focused on the identification and biological validation of key regulatory metabolic pathways and molecules that contribute to the development of insulin resistance in T2D and underlie the beneficial metabolic effects of physical exercise.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Assistant Senior Lecturer the applicant must have demonstrated scientific expertise and completed a doctoral degree in a subject area relevant for the duties. In addition to the doctoral thesis the applicant must have published at least three scientific peer reviewed publications. The applicant must partially meet the requirements for excellent teaching experience and expertise and have shown good pedagogical independence.

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • International experience in teaching and research
  • Extensive pedagogical experience of various forms of teaching at first and second cycle levels
  • Experience of individual supervision of degree projects at first and second cycle levels
  • Independent responsibility for planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching and examination at first and second cycle levels – to a significant extent and with documented high quality.
  • Pedagogical management assignments, for example as course director at first and second cycle level.
  • Background in metabolic research, in particular type 2 diabetes and immunometabolism
  • Track record in bioinformatic analysis of large data
  • Completed, nationally and internationally presented pedagogical development work resulting in improved study programs and/or courses.

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Track record of high-quality publications, including senior author publications
  • Ability to secure funding from ins national and international competition
  • Basic competence in the Swedish language

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
