- with focus on research
The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors, database administrators and administrative staff; in total approximately 250 full-time equivalent employees. The department is located at the Solna campus. For more information, see ki.se/en/meb
Part of the success of our department is due to our common research infrastructure and collaborative spirit. Researchers at the department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., research administration, IT, database administration, and an applied biostatistics group). Only researchers who are interested in this model should consider applying.
Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states and events in populations. Research at MEB builds heavily on the unique Swedish prerequisites for epidemiological research, including a long tradition of using individually linked health registers and biobank collections. Our department has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, life science, pediatric, pharmaco, and geriatric epidemiology, precision medicine, epidemiological methods, and biostatistics.
The employment has a focus on research. We are hoping to strengthen our faculty by recruiting epidemiologists considered world class researchers in any area of epidemiology. The successful candidate(s) will be expected to stimulate and develop growth in their area of epidemiology. We assume the successful candidate(s) will continue to conduct research within their established research area, but also explore new research opportunities. Supervision of doctoral students and some teaching in the department's undergraduate and/or graduate programs is expected. The senior lecturer is also expected to contribute to academic leadership and be engaged in the development of the department. Depending on professional background, the employment can potentially be combined with clinical duties.
To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated good pedagogical expertise and excellent scientific expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).
