Your mission

The Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) carries out research and offers education with the aim to promote the practical implementation of research findings and newly acquired knowledge in the field of public health and healthcare. The department has two university-wide areas of activity - pedagogical development and support, as well as research, education and counseling in the field of healthcare and research ethics. It is an exciting work environment where research and education are in focus. 

We are now looking for a Research specialist in the field of media and suicide prevention who can work take part in our activities intended for various media institutions with the goal of reducing suicide, for permanent employment working at 20%. Karolinska Institutet applies a probationary period of 6 months.

Your roll

You will be working at the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NASP) as part of an international team that is focused on research in the field of mental health and suicide prevention. As Research specialist in the field of media and suicide prevention, you will be responsible for the preparation of suicide prevention guidelines for the media, the development and coordination of a working group that will implement and follow up these guidelines, and for the reporting of these activities to the Swedish stakeholders in the field of suicide prevention.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

We are looking for those who have:

  • A doctorate in the field of media and communication science or equivalent
  • Substantial research experience in the field of suicide prevention and suicidology
  • Theoretical and practical knowlegde in the field of media communication
  • Experience in the planning and executing of both quantitative and qualitative studies, including the collection and analysis of data
  • Experience in coordinating and administering research projects
  • Excellent oral and written skills in Swedish and English.

Assessment criteria

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Documented experience in the field of suicide prevention
  • Research experience in the field of suicide communication in the media
  • Experience in leading research projects
  • Experience in publishing scientific papers besides those included in your dissertation
  • Being able to work independently on research data

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
