Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine (MWLC), KI, Hong Kong

Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine (MWLC) aims to contribute to the improvement of human health by conducting cutting-edge research in reparative medicine and related subjects, by creating a new platform for synergies between academia and innovation in Sweden and Hong Kong as well as China and fostering future leaders in both academia and industry.

MWLC was established to further accelerate research in stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and regenerative medicine. MWLC operates two nodes, one based at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden and the other in Hong Kong, located in Science Park, Shatin. The Hong Kong node currently includes four research groups, consisting of a total of 40 scientists.

Description of the Bioinformatics Platform
The Bioinformatics Platform consists of a group of scientists who closely collaborate with researchers at MWLC and Hong Kong universities and contribute to various research projects in the areas of neuroscience, dermatology, cardiovascular diseases as well as stem cell-based translational medicine. The platform serves as a knowledge base connecting bioinformatics know-how already present in individual research groups of MWLC in Stockholm and Hong Kong. The research projects combine concepts of single-cell profiling, epigenomics, whole genome sequencing, CRISPR genome editing as well as networks and systems biology. Currently the Platform is specialised in the single-cell transcriptomics and epigenomics data analysis. Diversity of methods applied varies from machine learning to other state-of-the-art data science methods.
