In our research group, you will find a unique opportunity to work closely with top researchers at the interface of vascular biology and neuroscience to jointly understand how the human brain becomes vulnerable during injury, neurodegeneration and aging. Our recent work aims to better understand the cellular mechanisms, biomarkers and genetic risk of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Alzheimer’s disease. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you will have the opportunity to contribute to high quality research at the top international level.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons, and for which there is currently no treatment or cure. Identifying factors that contribute to this disease is a major research goal within our group in order to be able to develop an appropriate immunotherapy to target those factors. We are particularly interested in the role of the vasculature in early pathogenesis.
We are looking for a senior research specialist with good knowledge of both experimental and human ALS, who also has expertise within vascular biology. The individual will develop and maintain a web resource for ALS transcriptomic data, identify biomarkers and develop a stratification system for patients into distinct subgroups based on comparative analysis of multiple omics and phenotypic data. The work will include design of analysis, data processing, quality control, statistical analyses, data interpretation and presentation of findings in the form of scientific publications, grant applications and at meetings and conferences. The individual is expected to oversee organization of research projects conducted by other postdocs and PhD students. The candidate is expected to interact with many collaborators at Karolinska Institute and externally and to contribute to the efficient functioning of the unit. We offer a very stimulating and welcoming working environment in a unit of motivated co-workers with diverse competencies.
To be eligible for employment as a Senior Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated good level of research expertise with significant scientific production. The applicant must also have demonstrated a good scientific independence to which their own contribution has been significant and a research plan of high quality with clear potential for the future.
