Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The research group is interested in the study of the native structure of the Synaptonemal Complex (SC, a macromolecular complex that permits meiotic recombination during meiosis in germ cells). For that we want to develop methods that allow us to isolate spermatocytes from mouse model that carries fluorescence-tagged SC proteins. With these cells as a starting point, we wish to adapt cryo-fixation, cryo-sectioning, and cryo-electron tomography methods to study the three-dimensional native structure of the SC.

Your profile

The applicant should have a Ph.D. in biological sciences and documented post-doctoral experience in studies of mammalian spermatogenesis. The applicant should have documented experience and knowledge of using electron microscopy methods such as cryo-fixation, cryo-sectioning and tomography, applied to mouse germ cells.

Qualifications

The applicant should have documented knowledge of mammalian spermatogenesis, meiosis and SC organization. The applicant should have documented experience of using different electron microscopy methods, including cryo-fixation, cryo-sectioning and tomography. We seek an applicant with a strong drive to adapt and develop new cryo-electron microscopy protocols to study the native structure of the SC.  Applicant should prove his/her experience with published articles studying structural aspects of the SC in mouse germ cells with different methods.
