Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

CRISPR Functional Genomics is looking for a Research Specialist for a temporary position longer than 6 months.

Description of the subject area

CFG (https://www.scilifelab.se/units/crispr-functional-genomics/) is a national SciLifeLab facility based at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics in Biomedicum at Solna campus. As the foremost academic competence centre for CRISPR in the Nordics, our mission is to develop, implement and offer high-throughput CRISPR technologies to support the Swedish research community in the design, execution, and interpretation of CRISPR-based functional genomic experiments. Examples include genome-wide, pooled CRISPR-based loss-and gain-of-function screens, screening with customised sgRNA libraries, small screens with single cell transcriptomic readout, targeted mutagenesis screens for studying drug-target interactions, CRISPR screens with in situ guide sequencing, and others. We work exclusively in cell culture systems, and perform all high-throughput experiments in pooled format. We collaborate closely with other SciLifeLab facilities, such as the Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS), Chemical Proteomics, NGI, Eukaryotic Single Cell Genomics, and others. Our second arm, Karolinska Genome Engineering (https://ki.se/en/mbb/karolinska-genome-engineering), focuses on precision genome engineering in cells and has common pipelines with Karolinska’s iPSC core facility and the Karolinska Centre for Transgene Technologies.

Your mission

As part of our current team of five, your primary task will be to design and execute functional genomic CRISPR screening projects for and together with CFG clients. You will also drive technology development and incorporate the latest cutting-edge technologies into CFG’s service portfolio. You will have frequent customer contact and will handle several projects simultaneously.

Eligibility requirements

Candidates are required to hold a PhD degree in a relevant subject and need extensive experience in mammalian cell culture. Documented prior experience in CRISPR-Cas9-based pooled genetic screening or similar technologies is advantageous. A good grasp of standard molecular biology techniques such as cloning, PCR, qPCR, etc. is expected. Familiarity with lentiviral tools, flow cytometry and cell sorting are highly relevant, as are bioinformatic skills. We work in a fast-paced environment, and excellent time management and research documentation skills, as well as the ability to multi-task are essential. Frequent contact with our collaborators and clients demands good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Fluency in English in speaking and writing is required.

Assessment criteria

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.

What do we offer?
