We invite applications for a position as laborative assistant in the research group of Camilla Svensson, professor in cellular and molecular pain physiology. The position will be placed in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, which has collegial, international and dynamic research environment. Our lab is part the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) located on the premises of the Karolinska Hospital. Our group has a strong focus on pain mechanisms in arthritis and fibromyalgia and offer an exciting and collaborative research work environment where you can make a difference.

Your mission

We look for a motivated person with interest in interacting with and helping a dynamic group of about 12 researchers. Your primary mission will be to support and facilitate the group members’ research projects both from an administrative and practical perspective. Your organizational and administrative tasks will include:

  • Assist in coordination of collection of human samples and oversee biobank
  • Purchases of products (Agresso), maintain chemical inventory (Klara) and equipment
  • Work with issues related to environment, biosafety and risk assessments
  • Organization of common lab stocks and lab routines
  • Introduction of new members into the team
  • Help managing the agenda of the PI and organization of meetings

You will also work closely with team members to support different aspects of ongoing projects. These tasks will be designed based on your interest and experience and could include: 

  • Processing of tissues and blood samples, purification of antibodies and quality control
  • Tissue histology and immunohistochemistry
  • Microscopy
  • In vitro work with cultured primary cells and cell lines

Your profile

You have preferably a bachelor’s degree in in biomedical laboratory science, biology, biochemistry or similar and have experience from working with diverse lab methods and organizational work, and you are eager to learn more. Experience with tissue histology or cell culture work is considered a merit. Knowledge in the use of electronic research documentation and biobanks and experience with chemical registries (such as the Swedish KLARA system) and risk assessments is considered an advantage. You also have very good skills in speaking and writing in English.

The successful candidate is a team player, a good communicator, is well-organized and enjoy interactions with researchers and students. You have a deep sense of responsibility, take initiatives and have capacity and flexibility to anticipate and solve daily challenges. You are service-minded, and you would like to contribute to the success of a research team.
