Karolinska Institutet (KI) invests in the recruitment of leading junior researchers with particularly outstanding scientific merits and future potential. The initiative is in line with Strategy 2030 at KI and is for research within the field of Medical science - including Medicine, Health care and Health. These positions as Senior Research Specialist/Principal Researcher (extensions of existing Assistant Professorships,) are included in this investment. The first two years of the appointments are financed by The Faculty Board at Karolinska Institutet.

Your mission
The applicants in receipt of these strategic funds are expected to conduct research in a field within Medical science, including Medicine, Health science and Health. The terms for the employment are to be negotiated with the recipient department.

Eligibility requirements
The applicant should conduct independent research of high quality, with his/her own established research line.

The applicant should be well-published in internationally leading journals in his/her field in recent years and occupy a prominent place in the list of authors, preferably as first and senior author.

The applicant should have obtained, preferably as the principal applicant, good external financing in recent years, and must have the capability to obtain additional financing.

Applicants must, at the time of application, hold an Assistant Professorship (defined by the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance as Career development positions) that expires January 1st, 2023, or later.

Assessment criteria
Scientific expertise will be most important when assessing the applicants.

Applicants will be assessed on their scientific expertise mainly based on two assessment criteria; the Applicant’s competence and the Scientific quality of the research plan.

Information about the employment as Senior Research Specialist/Principal Researcher through this call
The position as Senior Research Specialist/Principal Researcher is to be appointed on a permanent basis. The Head of department will decide on which title is to be used depending on the candidates´ merits - either Senior Research Specialist or Principal Researcher. The Faculty Board finances the first two years of the employment with 1 000 000 SEK and thereafter the financing is to be handled by the department. Funding from the Faculty Board will be made available on condition that the term of employment commences at one of KI’s departments not more than twelve months after the Assistant Professorship has expired. The employment is to be agreed with the recipient department, which is responsible for the salary.

The recipient department will be assigned a framework amount of SEK 1,000,000 per appointment per year for a maximum of two years. The funds are intended to finance positions and are to be used for salary and salary related costs in connection to the position.

Location
Depending on where the recruiting department is located, it can be in one of the municipalities of Solna, Flemingsberg, Danderyd or Stockholm
