Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at Karolinska Institutet (KI) announces an opportunity to join the research group of Georgios A. Sotiriou as a postdoctoral researcher in flame nanoparticle synthesis. The lab has extensive experience in the flame synthesis of nanoparticles and assembly of devices with focus on superior performance. The lab’s mission is to develop nanobiomaterials, tools and methods for medicine using engineering sciences. The research in this lab is highly multidisciplinary combining expertise from material engineering, bioengineering and health sciences. This allows for the design of bionanomaterials that exhibit the desired functionality in applications ranging from diagnostics to therapeutic interventions.

Your mission

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to work on flame nanoparticle synthesis for biomedical applications and participate in the lab research environment. This includes lab work, courses, seminars, and presentation of results at meetings. Other responsibilities include development of methodology and work routines, literature review, statistical analysis, adhering to the lab manual policies and drafting scientific reports and manuscripts.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

The candidate should have degrees (BSc and MSc) in Material Science and Engineering and a PhD degree in Production Engineering, with extensive experience in synthesis of nanoparticles by flame spray pyrolysis. Furthermore, skills including material characterization by X-ray diffraction, Raman, FTIR and UVvis spectroscopy, electron microscopy is required. Experience in flame spray synthesis of nanomaterials is required. Further experience in spray processes is advantageous.
