Our laboratory for reproductive medicine at the unit for obstetrics and gynecology at CLINTEC, Karolinska Institutet conducts research in human reproduction, including studies on human embryogenesis, endometrial receptivity and embryo-maternal communication during implantation. Professor Andres Salumets’ research group is focused on reproductive medicine and helps to solve some of the most pressing challenges in female reproductive health care by focusing on the mechanisms associated with infertility, such as abnormal embryonic development and implantation failure. Both of these problems may be related to the abnormal embryo-maternal communication that leads to poor success of assisted reproductive technologies and/or miscarriage. In collaboration with Fredrik Lanner's research group, we will use human synthetic embryology, single-cell omics technologies and endometrial organoids to shed light on the basic mechanisms for human preimplantation embryo development and implantation processes. The new knowledge will be used to provide translational tools to improve the pregnancy outcome of human assisted reproductive technologies.
In your role as a postdoctoral fellow with us, you are involved in research dedicated to improving the understanding of human preimplantation embryo development and its molecular interactions with the endometrial tissue during implantation, using stem cells self-organizing into embryo-like structures, referred as human blastoids in scientific field of synthetic embryology. Human blastoids will be used in embryo endometrial implantation studies, using state of the art techniques such as molecular genomics, extracellular vesicular studies, genome editing, single cell omics studies and modeling of endometrial organoids.
You collaborate with colleagues within the research group and also other research groups nationally and internationally. You participate in the group's research activities by planning and conducting research, writing and publishing original research articles, reviews and reports in scientific journals with a high impact factor, and communicating / disseminating research results via other scientific media and communication channels, including presentations at conferences. You also give relevant lectures to students, colleagues and the general public.
Eligible to be employed as a postdoctoral fellow is a person who has completed a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence. It is an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctoral degree at the end of the application period can also apply provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be proven by the applicant's main supervisor, director of studies or equivalent.
To qualify for this role, you need to have scientific competence that is relevant to the research area and significant experience in one or more of the following disciplines:
Skills and knowledge of in vitro models of human / mammalian embryogenesis, embryo-maternal interaction studies or synthetic embryology would be a great advantage
The working language is English and the applicant is expected to master English well in both speech and writing. A genuine interest in research, good collaboration and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently as well as in teams is important for this position. We attach great importance to personal qualities in the selection of candidates.
