The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.
Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). Scientists in the MEB biostatistics group [https://ki.se/en/meb/meb-biostatistics-group] develop methodologies for better analyses of molecular genetics data with the ultimate aim of improving health for all.
We are seeking a senior research specialist with expertise in the development of statistical genetics methodology for analysis of genome-wide omics/molecular data, including SNP arrays, genome sequencing and the vast resource of genome-wide association summary statistics. The main duty of the successful applicant will be in the development of statistical genetics methods and software tools for applications in genomic medicine. The successful applicant will be engaged in teaching activities and serve as supervisor for doctoral students. Initial appointment will be made at a maximum of 50% employment.
To be eligible for employment as a Senior Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated good level of research expertise with significant scientific production. The applicant must also have demonstrated a good scientific independence to which their own contribution has been significant and a research plan of high quality with clear potential for the future.
For employment as Senior Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Rules regarding other positions than teaching positions are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.
To be eligible, at least 15 original publications are required and the majority should be based on research that has been carried out after the doctoral education. Of these, at least two must be as first or last author, of which at least one as last author, carried out after the doctoral education and without any of the doctoral supervisors as co-author.

Obtaining substantial research grants as PI; graduating a PhD student as main supervisor; publishing as first or last author in top-ranking science journals such as Nature or Nature-branded sister journals.
