Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious immunologist to work with the team of Chris Tibbitt at the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM). The research interest is focused on human Innate Lymphoid Cells (ILC) immunometabolism with a specific focus in how distinct subsets adapt to their local tissue environment and perturbations that are caused by tumour development. We offer an engaging and diverse environment where you can contribute towards high quality research (Science Immunology 2017, Immunity 2019, Science Immunology 2021) on an internationally competitive level that involves both basic and translational immunology.

Division

Research at CIM focuses on studies of the human immune system. The vision is to be a world leading translational research centre within immunology.

Duties

The successful candidate will utilise the latest techniques in metabolomics and Single cell Multi-omic approaches to dissect human ILC metabolism across tissues and to define the role for a number of key factors linked to activation. Working in close collaboration with the Mjösberg group (https://ki.se/en/medh/jenny-mjosberg-group-innate-lymphoid-cells-ilcs), the candidate will also perform multi-parameter flow cytometry, Seahorse, gene-specific ‘knockdowns’ and in vitro cultures using ILCs and T cells extracted from tissue samples. There will be opportunity to perform in vivo murine models of tumor development. The individual will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment meaning excellent communications skills are essential. It is expected that the postdocteral researcher will eventually supervise other students and researchers, as well as contribute to common lab duties.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have relevant university education and hold a PhD degree in immunology research. We are looking for a person with significant experience with multiparameter flow cytometry and have worked with ILCs and/or T Helper cells. Experience of sequencing with some programming experience in Python and R is a distinct advantage. Moreover, isolation of immune cells from tissues and metabolic assays (e.g. Seahorse, SCENITH, Mitotracker, etc) are a merit as are basic immunological assays such as intracellular cytokine staining, ELISA etc. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communications skills and a proven ability to interact effectively and work productively in an interdiciplinary team. Fluency in English is a requirement.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Flemingsberg

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  • A complete list of publications
  • A summary of current work (no more than one page)

The application is to be submitted on the Varbi recruitment system.
