The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 70 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Your mission

We are looking for a highly capable database coordinator to enhance the performance of the organization's database included in the National E-Infrastructure on Aging Research (NEAR). NEAR consists of 15 databases derived from longitudinal cohort studies located in different geographical areas in Sweden. The databases participating in NEAR include more than 180,000 people over age 50. As a database coordinator you will be responsible in implementing standardized database management procedures, and overseeing the installation, security, and upgrading of the NEAR’s database. You will be responsible in supervising and mentoring a team of database managers and to develop procedures to ensure data integrity and quality. Together with a team, you will also help the users of the infrastructure by cleaning, preparing and harmonize data for specific research projects. You will be part in different research projects and act as a project leader in some. In addition, you will have the possibility to participate scientifically in projects, as well as conducting your own research using data from NEAR. The position also includes some administrative tasks.

This is a temporary position (substitute employment) of up to one year, with the possibility of extension.

Your profile

To ensure success as a database manager, you should possess extensive knowledge of database management, technologies and architecture as well as data security. Qualified to be employed as a database coordinator is one who has obtained a master’s degree in a quantitative subject or has equivalent competence. Preferably in epidemiology, public health, computer science or statistics. You need to have good knowledge in the Microsoft office package and statistical software (e.g., Stata, SPSS or R).

The position demands high level of organizational, interpersonal and communicational skills, prestige less collaboration and great attention to detail. Moreover, you need to be able to work independently and take initiative. Advanced analytical, problem-solving skills and experiences in leadership will be premiered. Very good English in both written and spoken is a demand. Good Swedish is highly valued.

Meritorious qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree
  • Previous experience in database management
  • Experience of working in a research center
  • Experience working with an infrastructure or core facility
  • Experience in working with population based longitudinal surveys and registry data 
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary work
  • Experience in aging and health
