Do you want to contribute to better mental health for all?

We study psychiatric epidemiology using the world’s largest twin registry as well as the entire Swedish population. Our international and collaborative group consists of epidemiologists, behavior geneticists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and statisticians.

Your mission

Current diagnostic psychiatric manuals focus exclusively on specific disorders, even though broad comorbidity uniquely predicts a host of adverse outcomes. This implies that clinicians might miss important information that could contribute to formulating management plans and predicting prognosis. We are now looking for a postdoc with knowledge in factor analysis, structural equation modeling, or epidemiology to study precursors and outcomes related to broad psychiatric comorbidity.

The candidate is also expected to learn to navigate Swedish population registers and the Swedish Twin Register with the goal of conducting analyses between and within pedigree clusters to estimate familial effects and to isolate unmeasured confounding. This is a position of 2 years.

Questions regarding the role, please contact Erik Pettersson. Contact information can be found below.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

The required background includes a PhD degree in quantitative methods, epidemiology, or a closely related field. The applicant must have experience with factor analysis or structural equation modeling, and have published academic paper(s) in peer-reviewed international journals using such methods. The applicant must also have an interest in psychiatric epidemiology.
It would be a merit if the candidate has experience with psychology/psychiatry, mixed or fixed effects regression, and if they have taken classes or otherwise display knowledge in causal inference. Furthermore, it would be a merit if the candidate has knowledge in medicine, as we are interested in exploring associations between psychiatric and physical disorders. It would also be a merit if the candidate is familiar with the statistical software R, SAS, or Mplus (or equivalent SEM software).

Strong written and oral communication skills in English are essential, as the work environment is international.
