Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious scientist to join the team of Andrea Ponzetta at Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM). The project will be performed at CIM in synergy with collaborators at the Karolinska University Hospital. At CIM our research focuses on studies of the human immune system. Our vision is to be a world leading translational research centre within the field of immunology and infectious diseases.

Duties

The successful candidate will integrate datasets from different high-throughput approaches, including single cell transcriptomics, high dimensional flow cytometry and proteomics, collected from a variety of patient cohorts. Our research interest focuses on double negative T ɑβ cells (DNTɑβ), a poorly studied unconventional T cell subset, which can trigger antitumor immunity in solid cancers (Ponzetta et al, Cell 2019). The offered position is for two years, and the goal of this postdoctoral project is to define the molecular signature of human DNTɑβ in human cancer and their potential applications in translational medicine. One of the scopes of the project is the development of original analytical methods to solve basic and clinically relevant questions related to human unconventional T cells. The postdoc will closely collaborate with researchers in the team and with clinicians at Karolinska University Hospital.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Your profile

The ideal candidate shall have:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in biology, biomedicine, immunology or related disciplines
  • One first-authored paper (at least submitted for publication) in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Documented experience with NGS (10x platform, Smart-Seq, scTCRseq) or other high-throughput/dimensionality methods
  • Knowledge of large-scale data analysis, integration and visualization
  • Proficiency in scripting language (Python or R)
  • Experience with Linux command-line environment
  • Curiosity to solve fundamental biological questions and enthusiasm to lead new independent projects
  • Ability to formalize a biological question into a computational model
  • Excellent spoken and written English

Location: Flemingsberg

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process
