Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research within the cancer field?

The post doc position is placed in professor Anna Martlings research group at Department of
Molecular medicine and surgery Anna Martling

The research is focused on applying next-generation sequencing technologies to explore key molecular events and enhance the development of Precision Medicine in colorectal cancer.  The group works closely with researchers at Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, harboring experts in both cancer genomics and biostatistics. The Cancer Genomics team at MEB has part of its activities at Science for Life Laboratory. The research environment includes PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and bioinformaticians.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in Sweden. Treatment has improved, however 30-40% still suffer from severe relapses. For patients with relapse, treatments prolong survival but they cure only a small proportion. Thus, there is a need for improved treatments and predictive markers to reduce the risk of relapse. Our research program aims to develop precision guided treatment and targeted therapies, increasing the chance of cure and to reduce side effects for patients with CRC.
Parallel to our large clinical trials ALASCCA we have created the ALASCCA Research Platform (ARP), which enriched by the already established Colorectal Cancer Data Base Sweden CCDBS will enable outstanding cutting edge translational, epidemiological and clinical research in the decades to come.

Your mission

The ALASCCA research platform (ARP) includes data from the 4000+ patients included in ALASCCA and CITCCA trials with complete and validated genomic profile, RNA and protein expression, clinical characteristics, treatment data and follow up. The work during the coming years includes database construction, bioinformatic organization and processes set-up parallel to conducting cutting edge science made possible by this unique cohort.

We aim to recruit an independent and motivated person with strong biostatistical competence who will work with the genomic and clinical data to explore predetermined- and novel associations with the goal to improve patient stratification. The appointed person will be expected to work with a network of molecular biologists, physicians and bioinformaticians, as well as to actively participate in national and international collaborative research projects.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Applicants should have a PhD degree and an equivalent knowledge level in a field related to the position, such as biostatistics, engineering physics or similar. Further requirements are:

  • Documented experience in programming and data analysis in R.
  • Hands-on experience from working with cancer genomics data is an advantage, as is a PhD-degree in a relevant field.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues in very diverse fields, and the ability to document work. Personal suitability is an important criterion as well.
