We welcome applications for a position as a Senior Research Specialist in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), at MR Centrum (MRC), Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet. The position has a focus on scientific development of MRI-based brain imaging applications within experimental cognitive and clinical neuroscience.

Description of the subject area

The department (CNS) has a long and successful history within brain imaging, clinical and cognitive neuroscience. The department is responsible for several advanced brain imaging facilities, and conducts qualified development of brain imaging methods, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) and in magneto- and electroencephalography (MEG & EEG).

Your mission

The successful candidate is expected to work with the development and teaching of MRI-based and multimodal brain imaging applications within experimental cognitive and clinical neuroscience. The candidate is also expected to work with the strategic and scientific development of the operations at MRC, with emphasis on experimental cognitive and clinical neuroscience. The work is primarily focused on the MRI method and on the activities at MRC but also includes the development of multimodal brain imaging (e.g., combinations of sMRI, fMRI, PET, EEG and MEG) in collaboration with other brain imaging facilities at KI and in the region. The candidate is also expected to conduct teaching and user support in brain imaging (mainly MRI) and cognitive neuroscience, as well as conduct their own research, supervision of doctoral students and post docs in the subject.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Senior Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated good level of research expertise with significant scientific production. The applicant must also have demonstrated a good scientific independence to which their own contribution has been significant and a research plan of high quality with clear potential for the future.

The applicant must have a PhD in neuroscience or an area with equivalent relevance to the position, and must have significant experience and expertise in brain imaging and the MRI method.

Applicants must have documented experience

  • from development of experimental studies in cognitive and clinical neuroscience
  • from arranging courses, seminars, workshops, and conferences on MRI
  • of facility management and business development within MRI
  • of user support and supervision in MRI

Assessment criteria

For employment as Senior Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Rules regarding other positions than teaching positions are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

It is meritorious if the applicant has demonstrated documented experience

  • of national and/or international collaborations between brain imaging facilities
  • from method development and teaching in analysis of MRI data and associated modeling and statistical methodology
  • from combining MRI with other brain imaging methods such as PET, EEG or MEG
  • from their own research in MRI, cognitive and clinical neuroscience including international publications of high quality and formal supervision of doctoral students / post-doc

Docenture in cognitive or clinical neuroscience or equivalent is also a merit.
