The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. The Department has a flat organization with 40 research group leaders, of which 24 are full professors, and 65 PhD students. Teaching represents a fundamental activity at the Department, which participates in several undergraduate courses and postgraduate education programs. Each year approximately 15 students receive their PhD from our Department and many of our graduates have gone onto distinguished careers in the academic or private sector.

Division
Our research group works in tight collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt. The research is focused on the psychology and brain mechanisms of expertise, in particular musical expertise. We use a combination of techniques from behavior genetics, experimental psychology, neuroimaging, and physiology. A major research effort during the coming years will be to analyze gene-environment interplay in musical skill learning in a cohort of Swedish twins, using a combination of behavioral measurements and brain scanning with MRI. To perform this research programme we are now recruiting two research assistants that will have a main responsibility for recruitment of participants, organization and scheduling of experiments, as well as data collection using MRI.

Duties
Primary duties will be to administer and conduct data collections in behavioral and MRI experiments, including participant recruitment and scheduling of experiments.

Entry requirements
The applicant should have basic theoretical knowledge of neuroanatomy and cognitive neuroscience, as well as previous experience in conducting MRI experiments. Documented good logistic skills and previous experience in coordinating recruitment of participants are a merit. The candidate should be reliable, meticulous and cooperative, with an ability to work without requiring extensive training or the need for close supervision. Evidence of the ability to interact with researchers from a range of academic disciplines is important.

Application process

An employment application must contain the following documents in Swedish or English:

  1. A complete curriculum vitae (no more than one page)
  2. A motivation letter (no more than one page).

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
