Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

An opportunity to join a productive research group with an excellent track record from using Scandinavian data sources to perform studies of relevance to public health and clinical medicine. The main focus of this position will be large register-based studies of health outcomes among football (soccer) players, but the position is flexible, and the candidate will be able to add other epidemiological studies to their portfolio based on their interest and the relevance of the research questions.

Your mission

The project has been launched in response to the recent controversy regarding potential associations of playing football on the elite level with risk of neurodegenerative disease later in life (see Mackay DF et al. NEJM 2019). The postdoctoral research will conduct register-based studies on health outcomes among elite football players using an established dataset and lead the creation of a large national cohort of amateur and elite football players. In addition to this project, there will be opportunities to pursue other lines of research within the focus areas of the research group.

Your profile

You should have a PhD degree within the field of epidemiology.

- Previous experience in merging of large administrative databases and using methods such as survival analysis, as well as experience from using Swedish national health registers are considered as merits.

- The position requires advanced level knowledge of programming in SAS, Stata and/or R and the ability to lead projects.

- Interest/experience in football and analyses of neurodegenerative disease and mental health outcomes a plus

- Good English skills are required. As some of the data sources are available in Swedish only, Swedish language knowledge is a plus
