The Division of Infectious Diseases performs research and education in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research teams address a wide range of infectious diseases using clinical, epidemiological and experimental approaches.
The Färnert research group focuses on malaria and other infections with the aim to improve prevention and management. The group is now seeking a senior researcher who will study the importance of infections in mobile populations with the aim to improve intervention that can reduce the health impact of infections especially of parasites.
The Research Specialist will investigate the burden of diseases and health care needs in mobile populations. The project includes clinical, epidemiological and diagnostic aspects with the specific aim to guiding screening and treatment interventions. Medical record and register data will be used as well as data from prospective clinical studies. Cost effectiveness analyses will also be performed. The Research Specialist will be leading the project, ranging from generating own research ideas, applying for funding, generating and analyzing data, and writing scientific publications. The position will also include supervision of students.
The candidate must hold a PhD equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree in the field of infectious diseases epidemiology. The applicant should have knowledge and practical expertise in clinical aspects of infections.
The group is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Research Specialist. The candidate is expected to be well organized and able to work independently and take responsibilities in the research group. The project is pursued in an interdisciplinary environment and international collaborations with several research groups, and good collaborative skills are required. Fluency in English is mandatory.
To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

Expertise in the topic and previous research in migrant health and interventions as well as international publications are particularly meritorious. It is advantageous if the candidate has a medical degree and has worked on large scale medical data. In addition, expertise in designing innovative approaches to using electronic health records to identify risk populations and previous experience in cost effectiveness analyses are particularly meritorious. Documented supervision of master students is a merit.
