Do you want to lead development in biostatistics at a new clinical research center at Sweden´s largest emergency care hospital?

The Department of clinical sciences is, together with Danderyd hospital, establishing a new clinical research center (Kliniskt forskningscentrum (KFC)), that will be a support structure for clinical and translational research. This center will be a part of Karolinska Institutet Clinicum - a new initiative for clinical research that is currently being established. Our aim is to increase our capacity to perform high quality research in collaboration with other care providers and research institutions in Stockholm and Sweden.

Danderyd hospital is one of the largest emergency hospitals in northern Europe with focus on providing quality care for large patient groups. The cardiology clinic is very large and the second largest nephrology clinic in Sweden is in our hospital. Ten percent of children born in Sweden are born in our associated delivery wards. We have a large infectious disease section and a large Covid-19 cohort follow up. The AI research group in orthopedics is world leading and currently expanding into epidemiology. Studies are conducted in all the associated quality registries for treated patient groups.

The department is now looking for a skilled and driven statistician with a broad background in statistics and epidemiology who would like to join us in building this new center and be responsible for the section of biostatistics and contribute to excellence in research in our department.

Your mission

As lead of the biostatistics section of our department you will work in different clinical research projects and with different research groups in diverse fields ranging from clinical work to laboratory work and epidemiology. Projects will use a wide variety of research designs including observational studies, larger registry- based studies, and randomized clinical trials. Your role will be to:   

  • - give seminars and contribute to teaching on methodological and statistical topics.
  • - give statistical advice to researchers in study design (including production of statistical analysis plans), grant applications, perform analysis and reporting.
  • - discuss how to interpretate results and how to best present it in reports/publications including write statistical sections of scientific publications and production of figures. In many studies you will be an important collaborator and co-author.
  • - work with data management
  • - active participation in the new AI-lab that is being developed at Danderyd hospital.

You will be offered the opportunity to attend- and hold courses, participate in conferences and workshops, and be involved in the activities at Clinicum, Karolinska Institutet. Many projects will be performed in collaboration with other care providers and research institutions in Stockholm. It will also be possible to combine this work with an independent line of research.

Your profile

A degree in biostatistics, statistics, applied mathematics, epidemiology or related field is meritorious. Knowledge in current best practice in biostatistical methods and statistical programming with ability to perform advanced statistical analyses using SAS, Stata, R, Python, SPSS or equivalent software based on large-scale register data is required. Familiarity with modern machine learning methods is also valuable for the position. Communication skills and an interest in teaching are important, as the positions will involve collaborating with researchers with basic statistical knowledge. Ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time is necessary. Interest in professional development in biostatistics is strongly appreciated.
