Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious scientist to join the team of Andrea Ponzetta at Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM). The position is available from immediate effect. The project will be performed at CIM in synergy with collaborators at the Karolinska University Hospital. At CIM our research focuses on the human immune system. Our vision is to be a world leading translational research centre within the field of immunology and infectious diseases.

Your profile

The ideal candidate shall have:

- PhD or equivalent degree in immunology, biotechnology or related disciplines, obtained in 2019 or after.

- One first-authored paper (at least submitted for publication) in an immunology-focused peer-reviewed journal.

- Proven skills in one or more of the techniques listed below (see “Your mission”).

- Curiosity to solve fundamental biological questions and enthusiasm to lead new independent projects.

- Excellent spoken and written English.

Your mission

Our research interest focuses on unconventional T cells, a class of lymphocytes endowed with both innate and adaptive immune functions. Double negative T ɑβ (DNTɑβ) cells are a poorly studied unconventional T cell subset, which can trigger antitumor immunity in solid cancers (Ponzetta et al, Cell 2019). The goal of this postdoctoral project is to define the phenotypic and functional hallmarks of human DNTɑβ, and to explore new strategies examining DNTɑβ as a tool in cancer therapy. The successful candidate is expected to be dedicated and to plan, execute, and analyse experiments in an independent manner. Clear data communication and reporting skills are essential.

Methods will involve high dimensional flow cytometry (30 parameters), cell sorting, single cell genomics, highly multiplexed immunohistochemistry and functional in vitro screenings.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent. A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Location: Flemingsberg

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Application process

An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
