The Integrative Physiology research group at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery at Karolinska Institutet is seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join the group of Professors Juleen R. Zierath and Anna Krook. The research is focused on translational studies on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes and the positive effects of physical exercise on glucose and lipid metabolism in skeletal muscle. The candidate will join our research group and work on projects focused on the identification and biological validation of key regulatory metabolic pathways that contribute to the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
The candidate will work on the regulation of insulin sensitivity specifically in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue but also on a whole-body level using several model systems. Projects cover disease mechanisms as well as protocol and assay development.
Expertise and research experience in cell biology and molecular biology. A clinical background and experience from clinical studies are highly desired. Research experience in cell culture is also valuable, particularly primary cultures are useful. The candidate must be fluent in English, have excellent writing skills and be able to take the lead on projects. Some knowledge of spoken Swedish would be advantageous for contact with research subjects. We are looking for a cooperative candidate who thrives to work with others. The candidate will join an enthusiastic, collaborative, hardworking and dynamic team.
