The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.
Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at http://ki.se/en/meb

The MEB biostatistics group
The MEB biostatistics group comprises around 40 staff. In addition to five professors of biostatistics, it contains biostatisticians at all levels of the academic career ladder, a vibrant group of around 10 doctoral students, and a group of approximately 10 applied biostatisticians. MEB also has epidemiological groups at the forefront of research into cancer screening for breast, prostate and cervical cancer. To support the translation of cancer screening research into policy, we are expanding our capacity for health economic evaluations of cancer screening.
Our group is currently investigating the cost-effectiveness of cancer screening. We are looking for someone who is interested in applying their quantitative skills to evaluate different cancer screening strategies using simulations. This is a cross-disciplinary project, with a team that includes expertise in biostatistics, epidemiology, clinical medicine and health economics. Possible sub-projects include: prostate cancer testing, including an evaluation of the recent STHLM3MRI trial; cervical cancer screening, evaluating partial genotyping and self-sampling; and breast cancer screening, evaluating risk-stratified screening. Tasks could include: data analysis of health data for estimation of epidemiological parameters and costs; simulation modelling, including coding for model extensions and performing model validations and predictions; and health economic evaluations. The specific tasks involved would depend on the skills and experience of the applicant.
