The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 100 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers and 26 professors.

We are seeking a postdoctoral applicant to work in the lab of Benjamin Murrell, at MTC in Stockholm, working on various topics related to SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and vaccines.

Your mission

Experience in the following techniques is expected, and these will be the primary duties in this role:

  • Multiple aspects of bacterial culture work.
  • Gibson assembly cloning.
  • Antibody expression in mammalian cells.
  • Antigen expression from mammalian cells, especially of SARS-CoV-2 antigens.
  • Protein purification (affinity and SEC).
  • Mouse handling (Felasa certification is required)
  • Mouse challenge models in the context of a BSL3 environment.
  • Pseudovirus production for SARS-CoV-2 PSV assays.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Applicants should have:

  • 1) A PhD in a Biological (or related) field.
  • 2) English proficiency.
  • 3) Extensive experience in all of the techniques listed above.

The applicant should be highly motivated, and able to begin as soon as possible.
