Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical and medical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, and geriatric epidemiology and biostatistics.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit. Researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). Only researchers who are interested in this model should consider applying. The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at https://ki.se/meb

The MEB biostatistics group

The MEB biostatistics group comprises around 40 staff. In addition to five professors of biostatistics, it contains biostatisticians at all levels of the academic career ladder, including 10 doctoral students and a group of approximately 10 applied biostatisticians who collaborate on projects within the department.

Members of the biostatistics group conduct methodological research in areas including causal inference, clinical trials, design and analysis of epidemiological studies, register-based research, twin and family studies, predictive modeling, image analysis, survival analysis, statistical genetics, and analyses of high-throughput data. The group collaborates within the department, nationally, and internationally on research in biostatistics and applications in areas including cancer, psychiatric disorders, aging, transfusion medicine, and HIV treatment. Further information can be found at https://ki.se/en/meb/meb-biostatistics-group

Your mission

The employment as assistant professor is time limited for five years with the right to apply for promotion to senior lecturer. Senior lecturer (lektor) is the second highest position, after professor, in the Swedish academic career structure and is equivalent to tenured associate professor in the North American system. The purpose of the employment as Assistant Professor is to develop as an independent researcher and acquire the scientific and pedagogical qualifications required for eligibility for appointment as senior lecturer.

Our group were awarded a research environment grant from the Swedish Research Council for developing statistical methods for register-based research which will fund this position. The ideal candidate would have an interest in the development of methods for use in register-based research, although this interest does not need to be demonstrated in previous work. The successful candidate is expected to develop theory and methods that can be applied in register-based research, but this recruitment is not connected to any specific research project. Our goal is to recruit the strongest scientist in biostatistics who can strengthen our faculty, irrespective of their specific research area. The successful candidate is expected to stimulate and develop growth in his/her area of biostatistics and contribute to the supervision of doctoral students in biostatistics. We assume the successful candidate will continue her/his research within their established research area but also explore new research opportunities in collaboration with colleagues at our department. There is no compulsory teaching requirement connected to the position, but we hope the successful candidate will contribute to teaching doctoral students in biostatistics.

Pedagogical experience and leadership qualities are meritorious. Those eligible should show a strong potential to achieve the requirements for promotion to senior lecturer within the designated time.
