You will join the dynamic and cooperative group of Prof. Maja Jagodic at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, which offers the opportunity to contribute to interactive research driven by pertinent clinical questions, combining deep molecular understanding of the mechanisms underlying Multiple Sclerosis (MS) with some of the most competitive clinical materials worldwide. You will benefit from a highly collaborative, engaged and international research environment committed to exploring innovative translational ideas in precision medicine where you will have a possibility to conduct research at the top international level in the field.
We strive to unveil epigenetic mechanisms underlying neuronal loss in MS using both large scale omics approaches in unique clinical samples in combination with molecular in vivo and in vitro functional experiments. MS is a leading cause of progressive disability in young adults and a highly heterogeneous disease with respect to its clinical presentation and treatment response. The successful candidate will develop novel biomarkers of neurodegeneration and disease progression based on epigenetic marks and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and implement bioinformatic pipelines to analyze them. The work will include design of NGS-based assays, nucleic acid extraction from biological samples, library construction, data processing, quality control, statistical analysis, data interpretation and presentation of findings in the form of scientific publications, grant applications and at meetings and conferences. The candidate is expected to interact with many collaborators at KI and externally and to contribute to the efficient functioning of the unit.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher who shares our passion for translational research and epigenetics, is ready to join our very collaborative team, and is highly motivated to perform both experimental and computational work. The position is funded through the European Research Council (ERC-CoG) grant - Epi4MS.
