Your mission

In Alzheimer’s disease, tau protein aggregates (NFT) associate with progressive neuronal loss. Entorhinal cortex layer II (ECII) neurons are the most vulnerable to degenerate in AD, and present NFT even at prodromal stages of the disease. To date, the reason for early manifestation of AD pathology in these specific cells is unknown. We believe that by studying their biology and how it is modified in pathological contexts, we will be able to identify the earliest events underlying AD pathogenesis and identify new therapeutic targets and biomarkers.

We are looking for a research assistant that will play a key role in a project aimed at understanding the mechanisms behind selective neuronal vulnerability to Alzheimer’s disease. The successful candidate will be offered a temporary 3-month contract with possibility of extension.

The responsibilities of the candidate will include:

• Culturing and treatment of human iPSC-derived neurons and mouse neurons in primary culture.
• Performing diverse molecular biology techniques including western blot, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, RT-QPCR.
• Plasmids and viral cell transduction.

Your profile

We are looking for candidates with academic qualifications corresponding to at least a master’s degree in Molecular Biology or Biotechnology. The successful candidate will be expected to have excellent scientific ethics, a high level of responsibility and to be a good team worker. Previous experience as a research assistant and in the field of Alzheimer’s disease will be highly valued.

The work requires:

• Previous experience in laboratory work and in different molecular biology techniques, preferably in the neuroscience field.
• Previous experience working with mouse models.
• Good time-management and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in English and excellent communication skills.
