Division, NASP

The National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of Mental Ill-Health (NASP) is located at the Karolinska Institutet Solna Campus. Since 1993 NASP has been Stockholm County Council’s advisor on suicide research and prevention against mental ill health. Additionally, NASP is a WHO collaboration centre that works together with the European WHO offices in Copenhagen and Geneva on outlining suicide prevention strategies globally.

Projects

This opening is for a research assistant position working with EU projects, funded by the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, and carried out in collaboration with multiple centres around Europe. The projects focus on novel technological paradigms in different fields, namely human social chemosignals and how these are involved in social interactions, and virtual simulations created by artificial intelligence to modify emotional states. The shared aim of the projects is to design more efficient diagnostical and treatment methods for mental disorders, such as depression, anxiety and eating disorders.

Your mission

The tasks of the research assistant include coordination, administration and support for the EU-funded projects at NASP in the fields of mental health promotion, suicide prevention and experimental psychology. The tasks include collaborating in the scientific work, preparing technical materials related to the projects including documentation of the actual activities, participation in the technical project meetings, writing reports on the progress of the ongoing projects to the research Consortium, maintaining good communication with partners, assisting in project and financial management, documenting dissemination activities. The research assistant will also be asked to collaborate on similar tasks in other projects currently ongoing at NASP, including collaborating with other members of the research team in conducting literature reviews, manuscript reviews as well as contributing methodological and scientific input to manuscript writing. Lastly, the research assistant will be charged with various administrative tasks, such as overseeing budgets, organizing documents, preparing materials for meetings, extracting and sorting scientific articles, communicating with both internal and external organizations working with NASP.

Your profile

The ideal candidate has an MA in Psychology and/or Public Health or related field. Previous experience in assisting in the project management of EU funded research projects will be considered an asset. Experience and competence in the field of suicide prevention and mental health promotion will be highly valued. The ideal candidate will have experience with health promoting mobile or VR-based applications. Competence in statistics and data management is also an important skill that will be considered.

The applicant will be part of a dynamic international research team and should be driven, self-motivated, take initiative, able to think critically, have good communication and problem-solving skills and have excellent organisational skills. The applicant must be able to work as part of an inter-disciplinary team and be able to work according to the deadlines of the International Consortium. The applicant must be fluent in English and have excellent scientific writing skills in English. Knowledge of Swedish is not essential but will be considered. The applicant should be familiar with using Microsoft 365 Office and communications applications. Competence in using statistical software packages (eg; SPSS,) is an important added value.
