In our research group you will find a unique opportunity to work closely together with researchers at the intersection of psychology and neuroscience. A current focus of the work of Professor Emily Holmes’ research group is draw on knowledge of mental imagery and develop innovative interventions to bolster mental health. We offer an engaging and international research environment in which you will have the opportunity to contribute to high-quality research at the highest international level including University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia (Professor Moulds).
We are looking for a full-time research assistant to work in this clinical and experimental environment. You will work on a project investigating novel ways to use positive imagery (e.g., via brief online interventions) to improve mental health, both in individuals in the general community as well as those in vulnerable groups. You will also work (as needed) on another project being conducted by Professor Holmes (EKUT-P) which evaluates an intervention targeting memories of trauma in healthcare professionals.
You will be involved in the development of studies, data collection and the preparation of journal articles for publication in scientific journals. You will also be involved in study administration and support (e.g., meeting scheduling, study management, communicating with partners and collaborators, and preparing documents for dissemination), research support activities (e.g., work with Institutional Review Boards, coordinate and run research studies, participant recruitment, participant consent, managing research data, preparing manuscripts for publication, as well as literature reviews). Furthermore, you will work on administrative tasks associated with the research projects and support the research group leader and Professor Moulds on issues related to administration and feasibility. For example, you will participate in research documentation procedures with KI-ELN, strategies for using methods of open data and work on ethical and grant applications. You will receive supervision and on the job training in all technical and administrative tasks. You will also be involved in collaborations with other professionals involved in the projects in question. The position is for one year with possibility of extension another year.
Irregular working hours may be considered based on the needs of the data collection. You may need travel within your service, both within and between Stockholm and Uppsala. Furthermore, you will work in the other projects as the projects are developed and led by research group leader. You will attend weekly joint research group meetings in Uppsala, based on the group's needs. Regular joint meetings and close cooperation with the team at KI (Professor Holmes, postdoc Kanstrup) and UNSW (Professor Moulds) is expected including attendance at weekly project meetings for the positive imagery project, and as required for the EKUT-P project.
We are looking for an applicant with a Bachelor or Masters degree with a focus on psychology, completed before the position commences. Previous experience in a clinical research setting and with publishing research is required. In addition, experience of working as a research assistant and experience of contact with patients/study participants is required. Due to the nature of the project the candidate needs to have experience of behavior change studies, and a demonstrated track record in this area. The candidate also needs to have demonstrated experience working with clinical populations including those who have experienced trauma.
The applicant needs to have excellent oral and written communication skills, both in Swedish and English (as a large part of the research group's work and communication with external partners is in English). In addition, the applicant needs to have excellent organizational skills, be able to work independently and flexibly, have attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks as necessary. You must also have excellent interpersonal skills, for working with both study participants and collaborators. The applicant will also need to have advanced computer skills to be able to use a variety of software packages and online systems (for communication, clinical and administrative purposes), and have knowledge of the R programming language and the statistics tool SPSS. In addition to this, experience with using digital platforms (such as SmartTrial) would be an advantage.
