Research Assistant in psychiatric epidemiology and pharmacoepidemiology

At the Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) we conduct research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular level to the society level. All psychiatric research at CNS is carried out within Centre for Psychiatry Research (CPF). A research assistant position is available within the Obsessive-Compulsive and related Disorders Across the Lifespan research group, where you will find a unique opportunity to work closely with top researchers in the field. Our research program aims to understand the causes and consequences of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive and related disorders using a variety of methods such as genetic epidemiology and brain imaging.

Your mission

The successful applicant will be linked to Professor Mataix-Cols’s research group at CPF. Professor Mataix-Cols’ group conducts multi-disciplinary research (e.g., biological, clinical, social, epidemiological) in the areas of obsessive-compulsive and related disorders.

In this position as research assistant you will be actively assisting on the register-based epidemiological projects with a particular emphasis on pharmacoepidemiological studies examining the predictors and long-term health consequences of chronic benzodiazepine use. The research projects will also include studying the risk factors of psychiatric disorders of interest, impact of such disorders in health and social outcomes, and mortality. In addition, within the same area of research (i.e., pharmacoepidemiology of chronic benzodiazepine use), you will be actively assisting on conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

You are expected to work under the supervision of senior researchers and play an important role in acquisition and management of data from large population-based registers, assisting on data analysis, and drafting scientific articles. You will also assist with preparing applications for related funding.

Your profile

You should have completed a Master level education in a relevant field.

Qualifications:

A master degree related to the field of medical epidemiology or public health epidemiology with courses in quantitative research methods.
Proven records of working with the Swedish nationwide health and administrative registers and, in particular, with the Swedish Prescribed Drug register.
Experience in statistical data analysis with focus on longitudinal modelling of register-based cohort data.
Proven competence in the use of analytic software such as STATA or SAS.
Experience in working with other analytic software (e.g., SPSS, R).
Sufficient knowledge and skills in conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses, preferably with the experience of carrying out such studies in pharmacoepidemiology.
Fluency in English.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Having a Bachelor’s degree education comprising medical subjects as well as having a research and/or work experience related to psychiatric epidemiology, substance use epidemiology, or pharmacoepidemiology are desirable and considered as merits.

In addition, the candidate should be able to take initiative, ensure that project goals are consistently met, be flexible to manage projects effectively, and be comfortable having parallel activities. The applicant must be able to integrate well into the international and multidisciplinary environment. Personal suitability is therefore of great importance.
