Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Science and Society

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2018 of 490 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 75 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology of various diseases. The department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff. The department is situated at Campus Solna.

Your mission

The postdoc researcher will investigate the gene-environment interplay in old adults. Specifically, longitudinal analyses will be conducted to understand how interventions from drug therapy interact with individual aging trajectories as assessed by different biomarkers of aging. Data will be acquired within the longitudinal population studies of older adults included in the National E-Infrastructure on Aging Research (NEAR). NEAR consists of 15 databases derived from longitudinal cohort studies located in different geographical areas in Sweden. The databases participating in NEAR include more than 180,000 people over age 50. The post-doc researcher will spend her or his time at ARC and MEB. The post-doc researcher will mainly be working with NEAR data harmonization for the variables related to the project, and will be responsible for project planning, data preparation (together with database managers within NEAR), and data analysis.

This is a full time temporary position for 2 years.
