The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2019 of 497 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 75 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.
The Health Technology Research Lab at Blekinge Institute of Technology is an academic environment where research projects are conducted to create knowledge on the interaction between people, health, and technology. The research is cross-disciplinary and includes researchers, doctoral students, and collaboration partners from the academic sector, industry, and local government. Two main strands of research project are found within HTRL: 1. Gerontechnology, the interdisciplinary field of scientific research in which technology is directed towards the aspirations and opportunities for the older persons; 2. Decision support with Deep Learning & AI in Healthcare, is combining a deep knowledge of the users in the welfare and healthcare systems with the capacity of modern computing.
The core interests of the postdoc position rely on the identification of modifiable risk factors for the development of neurocognitive disorders, based on multifactorial data from the National E-Infrastructure on Aging Research (NEAR) by using deep learning and other artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. NEAR consists of 15 databases derived from longitudinal cohort studies located in different geographical areas in Sweden. The databases participating in NEAR include more than 180,000 people over age 50. The postdoc researcher will spend her or his time at KI and Blekinge Institute of Technology. The postdoc researcher will mainly be working with NEAR data harmonization for variables related to the project.
The postdoc researcher will be responsible for project planning, data preparation (together with database managers within NEAR), data analysis, and writing of scientific articles. The multidisciplinary project employs multiple machine learning and deep learning algorithms directed at solving healthcare problems.
This is a full time temporary position for 2 years.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
The applicant should have a PhD in biostatistics, epidemiology, or AI/Deep Learning.
The candidate should have a good knowledge of advanced statistics in health settings. Essential skills are processing and interpreting health data in multiple forms, including big data healthcare multifactorial databases as well as medical imaging. Experience of data collection and logistics within population-based studies, data cleaning, quality controls and work on databases is also a strength. Scientific productivity (published articles) and experience from large-scale scientific collaborations are further merits. We stress research expertise when assessing applicants. In addition, great emphasis will be placed on collaborative ability, ability to work independently, and personal suitability
