At the division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology The Lanner laboratory is working towards novel treatments of Age-related macular degeneration and Diabetes through the use of human embryonic stem cells. The laboratory is working in the interface of regenerative stem cell-based medicine, transplantation technology and advanced material biology with close collaboration with clinical and industrial partners. With industrial support from Spiber Technologies AB we will now recruit a Postdoctoral fellow to work within our efforts to treat Diabetes using differentiated embryonic stem cells.
As a Postdoctoral fellow in the Lanner Lab you will work in an integrated team with members from several labs at both Karolinska Institutet (Berggren, Kvanta, Andre), Royal Institute of Technology (Herland and Hedhammar) and Spiber Technologies with diverse expertise stem cell based regenerative medicine, large-scale cellular manufacturing, advanced biomaterials, organ-on-chip systems, animal models, vascular biology and pancreatic beta cell signaling. In this team you will work to set up robust differentiation protocols towards pancreatic islets and beta cells for transplantation in our preclinical animal models with clear focus towards clinical translation. A special focus will also be towards immunological aspects of allogeneic transplantation and the driving causes of Diabetes.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctoral fellow is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent. Prior experience of stem cell culture and differentiation is required and a background in in vitro differentiation towards pancreatic lineages is a strong merit. Experience in flow cytometry, imaging, genome editing, transcriptional analysis, biomaterials and Diabetes are all beneficial. Excellent communication skills with documented history, ability to easily integrate into the laboratory environment and interact both socially and scientifically with other colleagues and collaborators is essential. The candidate should be ambitious, strongly motivated to develop the project and successfully troubleshoot emerging issues. We value personal qualities in the selection of candidates.
