Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at Karolinska Institutet (KI) announces an opportunity to join the research group of Associate Professor Georgios A. Sotiriou as a research assistant in flame nanoparticle synthesis. The lab has extensive experience in the flame synthesis of nanoparticles and assembly of devices with focus on superior performance. The lab’s mission is to develop nanobiomaterials, tools and methods for medicine using engineering sciences. The research in this lab is highly multidisciplinary combining expertise from material engineering, bioengineering and health sciences. This allows for the design of bionanomaterials that exhibit the desired functionality in applications ranging from diagnostics (biosensors) to therapeutic interventions.

Your mission

The research assistant is expected to work on flame nanoparticle synthesis and perform in vitro cell culture experiments and participate in the lab research environment. This includes lab work, courses, seminars, and presentation of results at meetings. Other responsibilities include development of methodology and work routines, literature review, statistical analysis, adhering to the lab manual policies and drafting scientific reports and manuscripts.

Your profile

The candidate should have a BSc in Biomedicine and ongoing MSc in Nanotechnology. Extensive experience in synthesis of nanoparticles by flame spray pyrolysis is required. Furthermore, skills including material characterization by X-ray diffraction, and UVvis spectroscopy are required. Experience with in vitro cell culture experiments is required.
