Are you looking for a place to develop as a researcher, deepen your knowledge, and expand your skills? We can offer you a vibrant learning environment, ample opportunity to collaborate with great researchers, and a great deal of freedom to develop your own ideas. This is where you move from supervisee to supervisor!
The postdoctoral work will focus on cancer-related outcomes in patients with systemic sclerosis and inflammatory myositis using large population-based register data in combination with detailed clinical, genetic and serological data. Our goal is to examine the impact of clinical manifestations of disease on cancer risk, but also to identify potential new pathways in cancer etiology in inflammatory diseases. There is also ample opportunity to interact with other researchers and be involved in projects regarding other research questions. We are actively involved in collaborations with researchers at other departments at KI (for example MEB), other universities in Sweden (for example Lund University), and other universities in the world (for example McGill University in Canada and Oslo University in Norway).
The postdoctoral fellow will work with an international research team in an international collaboration to design and conduct research relevant to the research group’s agenda while receiving advanced training to enhance professional skills and research independence. The postdoc’s time will be devoted to data and database management, analysis, manuscript preparation and career development. The candidate will be asked to collaborate with others, including graduate students, and provide her/his expertise in other projects. There are no teaching requirements but opportunities to teach can be facilitated.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in computational science, epidemiology and/or biostatistics. The candidate we are looking for is highly collaborative and generous with sharing her/his knowledge. She/he is an independent programmer, with a strong interest in statistics. Key skills include epidemiologic study design, longitudinal and survival modeling, and manuscript writing, as well as database management.
Knowledge/experience of the following fields is an advantage
The position is fully funded for 2 years with the possibility of extension for 2 more years. Salary will be paid. Social benefits are included for all residents in Sweden.
Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Our vision is to pursue the development of knowledge about life and to promote better health for all. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct innovative medical research and provide the largest range of biomedical education in Sweden. Karolinska Institutet is a state university, which entitles employees to several benefits such as extended holiday and a generous occupational pension. Employees also have free access to our modern gym and receive reimbursements for medical care.
The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group of Chronic Inflammatory diseases at The Clinical Epidemiology Division a division that hosts several research groups where epidemiologists and biostatisticians work closely together with clinician researchers to answer clinically relevant questions. In all we are approximately 150 researchers on different levels at the division. The division also arranges a PhD program for clinicians giving opportunity to teach at post-graduate level.
In the chronic inflammatory disease research group, there are approximately 20 people (doctoral students, postdocs, assistant professors, senior researchers) with different backgrounds but with common research interests, namely the study of chronic inflammatory diseases using Swedish national registers and clinical data. Associate professor Marie Holmqvist is now looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work together with her and her team on cancer in systemic sclerosis and inflammatory myopathies. She is seeking a talented and motivated postdoctoral fellow with training and hands-on experience in epidemiology and biostatistics. Marie Holmqvist has a strong interest in teaching and mentoring, and has a wide network of collaborators at Karolinska Institutet and around the world.
At Karolinska Institutet there are several departments and divisions working with epidemiologic methods and biostatistics in different ways. Epidemiology has been named a strategic research area at Karolinska Institutet, and within the Epidemiology network (SfoEpi) all epidemiology departments and divisions meet in different ways to exchange ideas and learn from each other.
