The Competence Centre for Psychotherapy (KCP) is part of the Centre for Psychiatry Research (CPF) and has a commission through the collaboration between Karolinska Institute and Region Stockholm to meet the needs of education and training in psychotherapy at various levels. We also conduct research and quality assurance within the field of psychotherapy. KCP hosts the 3-year psychotherapy programme, basic training in psychotherapy for various professions as well as educations within the field of psychotherapy at a basic and advanced, as well as at a specialist level. The courses are situated within the field of psychiatry and directed to health care services, often as executive and professional education.

CPF has about 400 affiliated and employed persons, of which just over 40 are placed at KCP. The main part of the staff at KCP are psychologists, and a large proportion of them hold a Degree of Doctor. Within CPF there are several research groups that conduct leading research in various domains and subjects within the field of psychiatry.

Description of the subject area

Psychotherapy and psychological treatment is part of applied psychology and psychiatry that include methods for and the study of how people’s lives can be changed for the better. Today, this is an area that is subject to extensive development, research, and education.

Education at KCP emanates from an evidence-based perspective on psychotherapy, both regarding content as development, to provide students with update knowledge that well meets the needs of the healthcare of today. A firmly established base in research and quality assurance is a characteristic attitude towards psychotherapy and psychological treatment at KCP.

Your mission

As a lecturer you will be responsible for courses at a basic and advanced level within KCP education framework. You are expected to apply for grants and conduct research in psychiatry with a focus on psychotherapy and psychological treatments, as well as adjacent areas of relevance for issues that may contribute to people seeking psychiatric treatment within the healthcare system. The lecturer will also take an active part in the doctoral studies at CPF and is expected to develop and design courses directed towards psychiatry and related topics, at this educational level.    

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical expertise; good scientific expertise; management, development and collaborative skills; and, when applicable, clinical expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant should have documented and extensive experience from research and education within the field of psychotherapy and psychological treatment.

As the position includes responsibilities to lead, manage and develop education at KCP, the applicant must, apart from extensive and well documented teaching experience, also have experience of development work as well as managing education issues within the area at an organizational level. For the work as a Senior Lecturer, good oral and written knowledge of the English language is required. Since teaching is mainly conducted in Swedish, good knowledge of both speaking and writing in Swedish is also a requirement.

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.

Assessment criteria

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (3), pedagogical expertise (3) and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure 3.2.2 are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Psychology license or equivalent clinical education.  
  • Good research activity with particular consideration for the past five years.
  • Extensive pedagogical experience of various forms of teaching at first, second and third cycle levels.
  • Experience of individual supervision of degree projects at first and second cycle levels, doctoral and postdoctoral students.
  • Independent responsibility for planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching and examination at first, second and third cycle study programmes and courses – to a significant extent and with documented high levels of quality.

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Research responsibility as a supervisor for doctoral students, master students and/or postdocs.
  • Pedagogical management assignments as course director at first, second and third cycle level.
  • Own research grant obtained in competition as the principal applicant.
  • Documented experience of leading research groups/units/projects.
  • Experience of leading positions on boards, councils, committees and other equivalent academic and/or clinical forums.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
