The Karolinska Institutet Department of Clinical Science and Education Södersjukhuset (KI SÖS) has a long tradition of clinical research. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SÖS is one of Sweden’s largest clinics within its field. The research within obstetrics and gynecology is extensive and focused on childbirth as well as diagnostics and treatment of gynecological common diseases. We are looking for an academic leader for research.

Clinical research within obstetrics and gynecology with emphasis on imaging.

Your mission

The employment as Professor and specialist in obstetrics and gynecology involves an overall responsibility for research within the field at KI SÖS. The employment includes actively stimulating the ongoing obstetrical and gynecological clinical research. The applicant is expected to conduct active clinical research within obstetrical or gynecological imaging. Furthermore, the employee is expected to contribute to education of obstetrics and gynecology within the medical program. An important part of the work will be to develop an academical leadership within obstetrical and gynecological research and education at KI SÖS.

The Professorship will be combined with clinical duty as specialist trained physician at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Södersjukhuset, where clinical experience and knowledge is of great importance to be able to organize the clinical education and research in the best way possible. The employment involves 50% clinical work and 50% teaching and research.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on research the applicant must have demonstrated good pedagogical expertise; excellent scientific expertise; management, development and collaborative skills; and clinical expertise (see the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant must have experience of clinical education within medical programs, clinical work and supervision on different levels.

The applicant must demonstrate documented experience of obstetrical and/or gynecological imaging research, having obtained research funding in national competition as well as being able to demonstrate collaborations regarding imaging with other universities, nationally and internationally.

The position will be combined with a position as a specialist trained physician at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Södersjukhuset and therefore the candidate must have an MD with specialist competence in obstetrics and gynecology or corresponding competence, as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden. If the appointee fulfills Södersjukhuset’s requirements for employment as Senior Registrar or Senior Consultant, the appointee can be offered this position.

Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

Assessment criteria

The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (3), pedagogical expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2) and clinical expertise (2).

For employment as Professor at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure 3.1.1 are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If the person appointed for the position is lacking such education at the time of the employment, the appointee must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
