The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including aging, Alzheimer, biomaterial, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, bioorganic chemistry, immunology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 250 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in Neo at Campus Flemingsberg, a biomedical research building, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Aging is one of the main risk factors for morbidity and mortality. Thus, a better understanding of aging and its underlying mechanisms is desirable, as it may lead us to aging-preventive interventions that improve human health and quality of life. Our team is taking various data-intensive approaches to gain new insights into aging.

Your mission

We are looking for a Researcher with a bioinformatics background to join our research group. The group is headed by Christian Riedel and studies the molecular mechanisms that regulate age-related decline, combining insights from model organisms and humans. The focus of this fully funded Researcher position is to develop machine-learning-based models, pipelines, and bioinformatic tools to retrieve aging-related information from omics datasets. Your work will span two eukaryotic systems: In the simple model C. elegans, you will help identify and explore new molecular mechanisms that regulate aging. In human, you will develop new analytical strategies to predict age and survival, to find biomarkers of age, and to identify drugs that slow down or reverse aging.

Your profile

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated scientist with a doctoral degree in Genetics, Functional Genomics, Bioinformatics, or similar. He/she is expected to be a hardworking researcher, with a good understanding of bioinformatic techniques – most importantly pipeline development and data analysis in R and the use of machine-learning strategies. Prior background in aging and/or systems biology is strongly preferred. Likewise, a background in the analysis of large-scale sequencing or proteomic data is desired. Laboratory experience with animal models, e.g. C. elegans, is appreciated but not required. Strong emphasis will be placed on the applicants’ scientific track-record and his ability to work in a team. The applicant should have good communication skills and be proficient in spoken and written English.

A person is eligible to be appointed Researcher if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after the defense of his or her doctoral thesis.

We put great emphasis on personal suitability.

Bases of assessment

We stress research expertise when assessing applicants.
