A postdoc scholarship position is available in the research group of Prof. Margaret Sällberg Chen at the Division of Oral Diagnostics and Rehabilitation, Section for Oral Diagnostics and Surgery. Presentation
This postdoctoral research position is immediately available in the research group of Prof Margaret Sällberg Chen. It is suitable a scientist with research background in gut microbiota and metabolic health. The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team that investigates mechanistic pathways in prevention of chronic diseases and cancer. The focus of this postdoctoral study will be oral microbiota metabolism in human health and beneficial responses to various medical treatments.
The team recently discovered oral microbes can translocate into pancreatic cysts (GUT, 2019, J Proteome Res, 2021, and unpublished result) and is active in developing cancer prevention strategies (J Hepatol. 2019, JCI Insight 2021). The candidate will learn the research models and participate in collaborative studies with possibility to identify new diagnostic/therapeutic biomarkers. The work will be conducted in an innovation friendly environment with focus on precision health.
The position is suitable for highly motivated researchers in molecular life sciences, especially those who are familiar with NGS bioinformatics workflow and resources. The studies will also require good organisational and methodological skills such as processing of biopsy/biofluid, biobanking to RNA/DNA purification, quality controls for sequencing and metabolomics analysis validations. Some basic experience in cell culture, qPCR or cell imaging would be good too.
To qualify the applicant must hold a doctoral degree or a foreign qualification equivalent to a doctorate. A PhD in life science or medical science in subjects of microbiology, molecular biology, biomedicine, or immunology is preferred. In additional to laboratory experiences, he or she should have good writing and presentation skills. Applicants must have excellent communication skills in English.
Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
Scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies may be awarded to individuals who come from other countries with the intention of remaining in Sweden only while obtaining all or part of their education. A person is eligible for a position as postdoctoral research fellow if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. Having received a salary or other remuneration from Karolinska Institutet during the past two years may be disqualifying.
Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies. This educational scholarship, which is paid for a maximum of two years within four years after the receipt of a PhD or the equivalent, is tax-exempt. The amount is set for twelve months at a time with possible extention and is paid out on a monthly basis.
