Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The research group lead by Professor Eleni Aklillu at the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Department of Laboratory Medicine, focuses on identifying genetic and environmental factors that contribute to individual and population variations in drug disposition and treatment outcome. We conduct clinical research projects focusing on Global Health Pharmacology and infectious diseases that are major public health problems in Sub-Saharan Africa, such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).

We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on pharmacogenetics and pharmacokinetics of drugs used for the treatment of NTDs.

Your mission
The research assistant/postdoc will work on plasma and whole blood samples collected through a Pharmacovigilance project entitled PROFORMA in East Africa (https://proforma.ki.se/). The laboratory work involves genomic DNA isolation, genotyping, quantification of plasma drug concentration using LC/MS/MS, data analysis, and manuscript writing.

Your profile
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Entry requirements
Candidates must have a PhD and research experience in molecular genetics, including genotyping for variants in drug-metabolizing enzymes and transport proteins. Previous experience in plasma drug quantification using LC/MS/MS will be an advantage, as well as experience in clinical research projects in Africa, including data collection, entry, cleaning, laboratory analysis, and publications.

Assessment criteria

  • Documented subject knowledge of relevance to the area of research.
  • Analytical skills
  • Other documented knowledge or experience that may be relevant to the project
