This position provides an opportunity to work in a truly translational environment as a collaboration between the groups of Fredrik Piehl and Tobias Granberg, two internationally leading researchers in their disciplines, to apply advanced neuroimaging to better understand disease mechanisms of multiple sclerosis (MS) and how they are modulated by disease-modifying MS therapies. We provide a research environment where cutting-edge neuroimaging is combined with soluble biomarkers and implemented in a clinical context. The aim is to pave the way for precision medicine and produce top-quality research to the benefit of persons with MS.
The position entails working with advanced multi-modal imaging data, both in terms of its acquisition and post-processing. Data will be acquired both in a clinical research setting at Karolinska University Hospital (mainly in Huddinge), in clinical trials, as well as on dedicated high-level dedicated research scanners onsite as well as at collaborating research sites. There will also be challenging data collection on human ex vivo samples for validation studies of new techniques. Further, the position includes responsibilities in cultivating the IT framework for the image post-processing and other managerial duties such as supervising master students and PhD students in these advanced neuroimaging applications. The neuroimaging biomarkers will be applied in a clinical context why an understanding of MS, its treatment options and relevant clinical outcomes is important.

Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment.
