The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2019 of 497 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 75 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

Your mission
A large part of the scientific activities at ARC are based on the ongoing population-based Swedish National Study on Aging and Care-Kungsholmen (SNAC-K), which includes people 60+ years who are followed up at regular intervals. The protocol includes extensive assessment of social, medical, biological, and genetic factors as well as a comprehensive cognitive battery. Further information is available at http://www.snac-k.se/.

The current post doc position will focus on predictors and trajectories of old-age cognitive decline. An important aspect will be to examine predictors of olfactory decline, as well as olfactory function as predictor of future cognitive impairment, taking advantage of the repeated olfactory assessments within SNAC-K. Over the course of the postdoctoral appointment, the candidate will plan, analyze, structure, and report on results from the current project.

This is a temporary position for up to two years.

Your profile
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Knowledge within the fields of cognitive aging and olfactory cognition is a requirement for this position. Prior experience with longitudinal population-based databases and data modelling is also an advantage. Excellent collaborative, communication and writing skills are needed. Very good English skills in speaking and writing are an absolute requirement for the position. Independence and strong motivation are expected throughout the project.
