Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory demyelinating and neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Arguably, the greatest challenge in MS today is that disability accrual occurs even with highly effective treatments such as antiCD20, suggesting independent CNS inherent processes, which remain incompletely understood for lack of reliable evaluation tools. Applying a multimodal strategy to address molecular mechanisms of disease worsening we will identify novel biomarkers correlating with clinical and imaging outcomes.
This is a short term position to perform clinical and technical feasibility analyses for an ambitious long term project with the goal of setting up techniques for cell-specific degeneration and cell state markers to be used in context of a clinical treatment trial (Protect-MS, Clinicaltrials.gov identifier; NCT04480307). The project is a cooperation between Fredrik Piehl´s and Maja Jagodic´s research groups.
Required qualifications are a medical degree with documented skills in clinical neurology, preferably with experience from managing clinical care of MS patients, as well as laboratory experience, preferably including techniques used in molecular biology (extraction of RNA and DNA, PCR) and cellular immunology (flow cytometry). We also require good command of English in both speech and writing. We also would like to see good administrative abilities, being able to work independently with a high sense of responsibility and to be a good team worker.
