The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including aging, Alzheimer, biomaterial, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, bioorganic chemistry, immunology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 250 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in Neo at Campus Flemingsberg, a biomedical research building, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We perform pre-clinical research to study the plasticity of human breast epithelial cells and seek answers to the questions of how healthy breast cells can originate tumors and how benign breast tumors shift to a malignant phenotype. By combining 3D organoid technology, tissue engineering, as well as CRISPR/Cas9 genome modification, and in vivo models, we study fundamental processes in breast cancer biology.

Your mission

We are looking for a Research Assistant (Forskningsassistent) to Marco Gerling’s research group. The candidate will work with Assistant Professor Leander Blaas whose research focuses on the basics of mammary gland development, breast cancer pathogenesis, heterogeneity, and progression. We are applying molecular and cell biology techniques, with strong emphasis on genetically modified organoids of healthy and tumorous breast tissue, to understand the cellular and molecular events that underlie the development of diverse breast cancer subtypes.

We are seeking a diligent and goal-oriented colleague who will contribute to several research projects. You are expected to closely collaborate with the PI and our team but are nonetheless expected to independently conduct experiments. Ideally, you are able to quickly learn technologies applied in the lab and optimise existing protocols for successful execution of your tasks.

Your profile

A basic knowledge of cancer biology is expected; recent experience of molecular and (stem) cell biology are preferred. Work experience of organoid models and ex vivo organotypic culture, as well as in situ hybridization are considered merits.

The ability to work in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment, and to engage in continuous professional development is a must.

Strong communication skills and English proficiency, both written and spoken, are a must.

Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
