Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institute conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology, and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 100 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers, and 26 professors. The department is multidisciplinary and bridges a broad range of basic and translational research efforts, including many national and international collaborations.

Your mission

MTC is looking for a Research Specialist for Professor Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam's research group to contribute to projects concerning B cell immunology and analysis of immune repertoires through Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). The goal of the research group is to increase the understanding of how variation in germline-encoded immune receptor genes shapes the diversity and function of the adaptive immune response. The tasks include molecular biological methods for analysis of immune repertoires with NGS and other standard molecular biological applications including genomic validation. The tasks may also involve protein expression work and organization of samples and protocols in close collaboration with researchers in the group.

Your profile

To be qualified for the position you should have a PhD and several years of experience (>5 years, preferably >10) from working in molecular biology-oriented research laboratories. You should have a good basic understanding of genetics and genomics and a willingness to work full-time in the laboratory with advanced PCR protocols and large samples collections. Additionally, you should have a genuine wish to support the group in several parallel research projects, a capacity to handle complex sample sets and an organized mindset.

When assessing the applicants, we will prioritize applicants with extensive experience of practical work in molecular biology and genetics and with experience in analyzing data generated from such experiments. We look for candidates who have good communication and organizational skills with excellent references from previous workplaces. The group uses exclusively English as a working language.
