Karolinska Institutet, Department of Clinical Neuroscience

- with focus on education and research

Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) is divided into five divisions that conduct research and education in neuroscience, from the molecular level to the societal level. The work at the department is highly integrated with the clinical activities at Karolinska University Hospital, St. Erik's Eye Hospital and the Stockholm Region.

The Psychology division is very active in research and teaching. The division is responsible for the psychology program and has large assignments teaching at e.g. the physician and the physiotherapy program. The division has a long experience of research and education in developmental psychology in general and in neuropsychological disability in a developmental psychological perspective, specifically. We now want to widen the area through evidence-based application with a focus on neuropsychological disability.

Your mission

The position as a professor in developmental psychology with a focus on neuropsychological disability means linking research in the field of developmental psychology by bringing the state of knowledge forward and by acting as a unifying function between research and teaching. Within the psychologist program, courses in developmental psychology are given. As a professor in the field, you are expected to contribute to international research with a focus on neuropsychological disabilities such as e.g. ADHD and Autism spectrum disorder. You are expected to contribute knowledge to students at the psychology program at KI which is based on a "scientist-practitioner" model and where evidence-based psychological efforts and treatments are of particular importance and the ability to connect a societal perspective within the field. An important part of the work will be to develop an academic leadership role to strengthen the unifying function in research and education that a professor of developmental psychology is expected to have at KI.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research and teaching expertise, as well as management, development and collaborative skills (see instructions for employment regulations for teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant must demonstrate good scientific competence and activity in the field of developmental psychology with a focus on neuropsychological disabilities. Documentation that strengthens these competencies must include significant international publications and research grants received in competition as well as on teaching experience in the field.

The applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks of higher education training in teaching (or have equivalent competence) in accordance with the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher.

Assessment criteria

The Professorship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research expertise (3), educational expertise (3) and leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2).

Experience of international research in the field as well as good experience of various forms of teaching and course responsibility within the subject of psychology on university level are meritorious.

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the candidates that has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
