Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 100 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers and 26 professors. Key words are multidisciplinary, translational, national and international collaborations.

Your mission

The Sjöling lab at the department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology seeks to employ a senior lab manager in molecular studies of pathogenic bacteria. The Sjöling lab studies host interactions and environmental dissemination of the major diarrheal pathogenic bacteria Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC). The candidate will perform independent research on ETEC and antibiotic resistance plasmids.

Studies on how common bacterial infections are established and spread are important to improve global health, especially in endemic regions where bacterial infections have a large burden. This position offers the possibility to contribute to the fight against bacterial pathogens with access to state-of-the art methods.

The employment is set on 1 year with a possible extension of maximum 1 year.

Your profile

The candidate is eligible to be employed as a senior lab manager if she/he has obtained a PhD in microbiology or a related field and has the special knowledge that is important with regard to the tasks. It is essential that the candidate master molecular tools and analyses including RNA and DNA extraction, qPCR, bacterial culture, and molecular microbiology techniques including molecular cloning. An interest in developing and operating new sequencing techniques and analysis methods is required, knowledge of next-generation sequencing and experience of working with pathogenic bacteria including E. coli/ETEC is a merit.
